  17.                               The Danen Utilities

  20. Below is a list of currently published "Danen Utilities."
  21.  
  22. Some programs make assumptions that you should be familiar with:
  23. -  ANSI.SYS is required by some programs.
  24. -  Fairly extensive use is made of environment variables, such as GD.TTY.RIGHTS
  25.    and GD.SOUND.  Set GD.TTY.RIGHTS=N and some command-line programs will
  26.    suppress copyright notices.  Set GD.SOUND=N and BU won't make any noise.
  27.    GD.D controls the default parameters for D.
  28. -  /? will in many cases display brief help messages.
  29. -  For programs that print to network printers, the following conventions are
  30.    used:  LPT1 is HP mode, short timeout; LPT2 is captured in a PostScript
  31.    queue; LPT3 is in HP mode, with a long timeout.
  32.  
  33. A bug was discovered with BIOS screen updates in true blue BIOS's.  This has
  34. been corrected in programs with a date stamp after March 22, 1995.

  45. 2PS       F  Convert ASCII files to PostScript
  46.              2PS formats files for printing on a PostScript printer.  The
  47.              format used is nice and compact:  normally two pages on each
  48.              physical page, borders surrounding pages, headers with useful
  49.              information (page number, printing date, file name), line
  50.              numbering, etc.  Useful for printing program listings.
  51.  
  52. 2ROWCOL   F  For Batch Files: Move to Anywhere on the Screen
  53.              2ROWCOL enhances the use of MS-DOS batch files. Check 2R.BAT for
  54.              examples.

  56. AUDIT_PW  S  NetWare Security: Audit User Passwords
  57.              AUDIT_PW was developed to tighten up network security on Novell
  58.              networks. Many users use very easy to guess passwords. A common
  59.              password is a potential security leak!
  60.              AUDIT_PW uses a file with common passwords to try on each user
  61.              account. All common passwords are reported.
  62.              A user info file and a status file with other security information
  63.              are als created.
  64.              MAKE SURE TO TURN INTRUDER DETECTION/LOCKOUT OFF BEFORE YOU START!

  66. BEEP      F  Batch program to beep the speaker when "BU S" doesn't

  68. BINARY    F  Convert decimal (int) numbers to Binary (bits)

  70. BORDER    F  Change border color of VGA and CGA displays

  72. BU        F  Batch Utility
  73.              BU enhances the use of MS-DOS batch files. Automate AUTOEXEC.BAT
  74.              files for BBS and network servers, build menu systems, many more
  75.              uses! BU replaces a number of separate utility programs, such as:
  76.              ASK, CRLF, CURSOR, HEADER, HITENTER, MSG, REDALERT, SOUND, TIMER,
  77.              WARBLE, and YN.

  79. CAST      F  CAST shows the status of CASTON/CASTOFF on Novell NetWare servers.

  81. CDPATH    F  Save & Restore Drive/Directory Settings
  82.              Useful little utility to go back to where you were (drive and
  83.              directory) before you started a program.

  85. CDROM     F  CD-ROM Information
  86.              Shows whether the Microsoft CD-ROM Extensions (MSCDEX) are
  87.              installed, and if so, which version. CDROM lets you know if
  88.              you're using and outdated MSCDEX driver.
  89.              CDROM then tries to determine how many CD-ROM drives you have, and
  90.              their drive letters.

  101. DISKIMAG  F  Read and Write Floppy Disk Images
  102.              Useful for backup of floppies and for making multiple disk copies.

  104. DRIVEMAN  F  Enable and Disable Floppy Drive Access
  105.              Prevent users from putting a virus on your network by turning the
  106.              floppy drives off.

  108. DSUM      S  Disk Drive Summary
  109.              DOS utility shows statistics on all physical and logical drives,
  110.              including network, SUBST, and CD-ROM drives.
  111.              For each drive you see volume label, total capacity, Kbytes used,
  112.              Kbytes free, % free, low space indicator, current path, mapped
  113.              directory, more.

  116. DUSAGE    S  Netware Disk Usage Analysis
  117.              This DOS utility is a network disk management tool. It allows
  118.              network administrators to manage disk space on the network more
  119.              intelligently. Indicates among others, low disk space for users
  120.              with disk quota (volume restrictions) in place.
  121.              ShareWare $25 per individual user, or $100 per server.

  123. EMPTYDIR  F  Remove Empty Directories
  124.              NetWare administration is made difficult when users create a whole
  125.              bunch of subdirectories, and then don't put files in them.
  126.              EMPTYDIR is a DIS utility that identifies empty directories, and
  127.              creates a batch file to do house cleaning if you redirect output
  128.              to a .BAT file, e.g., EMPTYDIR * >clean.bat

  130. EQ        F  Capture Equipment Information
  131.              Redirect to file if you need to send the information to someone
  132.              via disk or modem.
  133.  
  134. FATR      S  Change File Attributes Interactively
  135.              Set and remove all file attributes. Even hidden status on
  136.              directories!

  139. FIXPATH   F  Fixes X:. to X:\ after NetWare drive map
  140.              Updates the path after NetWare MAP. Changes all <drive>:. to
  141.              <drive>:\ and creates a batch file in TEMP for you to run.

  143. GO        F  Move very quickly between directories
  144.              GO provides an easy way to switch between directories.  You set up
  145.              logical names for your directories in the DOS environment.

  147. HINT      F  Find Text in (EXE) Files
  148.              HINT is a specialized automatic program documenter.  Real
  149.              Programmers know that the only reliable documentation is the code
  150.              itself, but a lot of programs come as executable code only, and
  151.              I've never met a programmer who claims that EXE files are easy to
  152.              read.  HINT doesn't document these things, but it can help give
  153.              some clues.

  155. MKPATH    F  Make a Path using BRUTE FORCE
  156.              MKPATH is designed to lessen the amount of keying when creating
  157.              and changing to DOS directories.

  159. Q         F  List Jobs in Novell NetWare Print Queues
  160.              The job's priority, name, size, user id, date & time queued,
  161.              status, job number, and form type are displayed.

  163. SCANDIR   F  Scan Directories - Cleanup!
  164.              Part of the Danen Utilities.  SCANDIR is designed as a clean-up
  165.              utility to go through a part or all of a hard disk's files, and
  166.              erase files if so instructed.  Even read-only files can be removed
  167.              by SCANDIR.

  169. SDIR      F  Sorted directory with interactive file delete
  170.              Tag files for deletion, and then delete them all at once. Files
  171.              may be listed by name, extension, size, date/time. View files
  172.              before you decide to delete.

  174. SHOWDIZ   F  Pops up FILE_ID.DIZ on your screen for viewing
  175.              Useful for creating ZIP files for upload.
  176.              Observes 15 lines by 46 characters, and shows when you have
  177.              exceeded those limits.

  179. SS        S  Screen saver: non-TSR locks keyboard
  180.              Lock your keyboard with this screen saver. On Novell networks, SS
  181.              uses the user's logon password.

  190. TMSG      F  Tracking System for NetWare Administration
  191.              Two programs make up the tracking system.  TMSG records your
  192.              messages in an ASCII file.  TMSG_LOG takes the ASCII file,
  193.              analyzes the records and updates two .DBF files.  These .DBF files
  194.              can then be manipulated as you see fit.
  195.              If logged in to NetWare, messages are logged to the network In
  196.              stand-alone mode, messages are logged to C:\.

  199.              For Major BBS SysOps who want to do more with their user
  200.              information, e.g.  generate a birthday announcements list.  Very
  201.              flexible.

  204.              VIDEO allows the user to change to any of the standard PC video
  205.              modes, as well as 43-line EGA mode, and 4 ATI EGA/VGA Wonder

  215.              ZAP completely removes a directory along with its files and
  216.              sub-directories, and its files and sub-directories, etc.  Hidden,

  218.              just delete the files and leave the directory structure intact.
